Blitz Championship: Gunina won again! |
 Russian player Valentina Gunina became the winner of the European blitz championship among women and got the second gold medal in Gazientep. In the last round she managed to win against Antoaneta Stefanova 2:0 and this victory placed her on the first rank. Elisabeth Paehtz, who was leading before the last round, lost to Nadezda Kosintseva 1,5:0,5 and got the silver medal. Nana Dzagnidze placed third. Rapid Championship: Tatiana Kosintseva became the winner! |
 Russian players are on pedestal once again! Tatiana Kosintseva became the winner of the European Rapid Championship and Alexandra Kosteniuk got silver medal. German player Elisabeth Paehtz, who defeated Antoaneta Stefanova in the last round, placed third. Nana Dzagnidze lost against Tatiana Kosintseva in the last round and shares the fourth place together with Katerina Lahno, Anna Muzychuk, Nino Batsiashvili, Antoaneta Stefanova and Valentina Gunina.

«Moving, acting, or occurring with great speed» - that's a definition of "Rapid" I've found in online dictionary.
One should notice the difference - when it comes to women chess, "rapid" means a lot of tactics, a lot of tension, turnovers of the plot of the game move after move and well, a lot of errors, but we don't care much as long as it's so exciting!

Rapid Championship: three leaders after day 1 |
 The European Individual Women Rapid Chess Championship started on 15th of March 2012 in Gazientep. 46 players take part in the event. Six rounds was sceduled for the first day and five more rounds will be and Nana Dzagnidze, Alexandra Kosteniuk and Tatiana Kosintseva are leading in the championship. Turkish player Betul Yildiz has 4 points after 6 rounds and shares 5th place. She managed to win against Nino Khurtsidze and Lillit Mkrtchian in the last two rounds and shows 2585 performance. European Champion Valentina Gunina has 3,5 points and shares 15th place. |
